Strat Pickup swap
We had a Strat come in that after years of serious gigging needed some work to freshen it up. The customer being a huge Hank Marvin fan who owned a few red Strats decided he wanted it resprayed in a sunburst finish to give some variety to his collection. Once the guitar was returned to him with a gorgeous new paint job, he wanted us to do a pickup swap and setup.
First job was to get the new pickups fitted into the scratch plate. The pickups that he had chosen were a set of Kinsman 54 Impersonator Hank Marvin. We removed the old pickups and then installed the new ones and then refitted the scratch plate to the guitar.
Being such a Hank fan, the customer also wanted D’Addario EXL110W strings fitted. These differ from regular D’Addario EXL110 strings in that they have a wound G string which definitely gives the guitar a different feel.
We fitted the strings and set the guitar up, checking and adjusting the nut groove heights, neck relief, action, intonation and tremolo system. With the guitar setup we set the pickup heights and plugged it in.
Setting the amp up clean we were treated to a rich, full sounding guitar, very reminiscent of those early Shadows tones.
The guitar was then returned to a very happy customer who hasn’t been able to put it down since it was returned to him.
