D’Addario 11-49 Electric Guitar Strings

For as long as I’ve played guitar, I’ve always loved the feel and sound of D’Addario strings. They’re balanced, well made and incredibly reliable. On most of my guitars I use 10-46 gauge strings in standard tuning. Having recently acquired a 1961 Gibson SG Special reissue, I was eager to try out a slightly heavier set as I felt my usual 10-46 may feel too loose on the shorter scale length
Due to the heavier gauge of strings I needed to do a setup on the guitar, This was down to the thicker strings creating more tension on the neck.
After the setting up my SG with the 11’s I noticed an immediate difference in both the response and overall sound of the guitar. The warmth and dynamic of the twin P90’s really came through much clearer than before and the tension across all six strings felt more balanced. The SG is also equipped with a vintage style wrap over tail piece which meant setting the guitars intonation with lighter strings was a challenge. However with the heavier set i found that it resolved this issue completely especially on the treble strings. The other benefit of heavier strings on a shorter scale length is the overall tuning stability. After putting the guitar in a flight case for a six hour trip to a festival, it was still perfectly in tune when we arrived to soundcheck. These strings really impressed me and I would recommend them to any player interested in trying a heavier setup or if you are simply looking to switch things up from your regular strings.
