Since their introduction in the early 90’s, Digitech pedals have been a popular choice for musicians around the world from bedroom players to stadium touring pros. Their ethos of quality, low cost and superb sounding gear has always been at the heart of what they do and I was pleasantly surprised to find that their new line of pedals was no exception. I picked up the Polara Reverb about a year ago and was amazed at how huge and luscious the different reverb engines sounded. After using a couple of other reverbs through the years and constantly switching them out, the Polara had everything I needed in one compact unit.
In 2014, Digitech began a collaboration with Lexicon, a world leader in high end studio grade gear such as rack mounts and outboard effects. The Polars was one of the first pedals they released under this joint collaboration and has quickly become an instant classic. With seven beautiful reverb algorithms onboard, including classics such as Spring, plate and hall settings, to more “out there” effects like reverse and ‘halo’ verb which creates a high octave shimmer above the original note, the Polars has quickly become an instant classic. At just over £100, this pedal is well worth a look if you’re a reverb junkie looking for something new or even if you’re building up a bigger ambient rig. You can dive deeper into the pedal and select ‘trails’ or kill dry, alter from true bypass to a buffered bypass option and you’ll never have to worry about that annoying ‘clunk’ sound which of often happens with some pedals thanks to the ultra smooth soft click foot switch.
