The word ‘transparent’ is thrown around a lot these days when it comes to guitar pedals and a lot of manufacturers can often be quite vague about what this means. However in the last ten years, JHS (not to be confused with John Hornby Skewes) have reinvented what it means to create a truly transparent overdrive which does not colour your original tone at all but merely pushes your amp into a beautiful, natural sounding overdrive that has to be heard to be believed. In their short time on the scene, JHS have made a huge name for themselves globally and have quickly become one of my favourite companies out there.
Part of what gives this pedals its charm is the incredibly intricate circuitry and completely unique midrange bump. With a simple control layout which will feel immediately familiar to any overdrive user, you can dial in everything from a hyper responsive natural overdrive to a lush tone sparkling clean boost with ease. I found this pedal works great with delay and modulation effects due to its fidelity and complete transparency, even when maxed out nothing gets lost of confused in your sound which is something I’ve always struggled with, even when using the most basic of overdrives. This pedal has become a true pedal junkie household name and for very good reason. For its price tag and usability, the JHS Morning Glory is a must have for any drive fanatic.
